ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

Lipoabdominoplasty

Following pregnancy or significant weight loss, skin which once adhered nicely to the abdominal wall may appear very loose. "Stretch marks", known as striae, may be noticeable around your belly button and lower abdomen. Striae are actually scars that occur when the dermis is extended beyond its limits, tears, and then heals. They are a permanent reminder that the skin has lost its natural ability to contract. Also, after pregnancy and childbirth there may be laxity of the underlying abdominal wall muscles, which makes it very difficult to achieve a flat and firm tummy. Fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise may also be present.

So, do I have any good news? Sure. Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, offers a solution by flattening the slack skin and tightening the muscles of the relaxed tummy wall. Excess skin is removed in a way which shapes the waistlineand contours the hips.

Lipoabdominoplasty, which combines the benefits of a tummy tuck with the fat removing and soft tissue sculpting capabilities of liposuction. I really enjoy this procedure because it allows greater control in creating a slimming silhouette by reducing the fullness of the upper and lateral abdominal region and establishing a smooth transition between the lower abdomen, upper thighs, and hips.

Who is a candidate for a tummy tuck? The ideal candidate for tummytuck surgery should be in relatively good physical shape and not pleased with the excess loose skin and  muscle laxity of the abdominal area. You must also be willing to accept a permanent scar across the lower abdominal region.

Before your surgery, I will discuss the different locations where a scar can be placed. It is important that I have a clear understanding of your expectations. Following your surgery, I will make recommendations and begin a scar management regimen to optimize the appearance of your scar. The most important aspect of a tummy tuck, or any surgical procedure, is your safety.

This information will also be reviewed during your "pre-surgery " office visit. It is a lot to take in. So take your time and read through the information. Take notes and please ask questions. PATIENT TESTIMONIAL

"I was looking for a surgeon that I felt comfortable with and who appeared genuine and concerned about what I wanted. I decided on Dr. Franks because of stories I heard from other women who had been his clients. I didn't look at myself for five or six days after surgery, and when I did, I cried. I felt like I was looking at someone else's stomach, not my own. The results far surpassed what I envisioned. I would recommend Dr. Franks because he will give an honest response to everything you ask. My surgery and recovery have been smooth, progressive and noncomplicated, and I feel that is due to the character and skill of the physician I chose. Thank you, Dr. Franks."
